Q. I am not 18 years of age or older, but have a credit card, can I enter the raffle?

A. No, if you are not 18 years of age or older on the day you purchase the tickets you cannot enter the Raffle.

Everyone who Wins needs to provide identification with proof of their age and they need to sign an affidavit in front of a Notary. If you cannot prove to a Notary that you are 18 years of age or older, and provide us with the proof we require, you will not be awarded the prizes. If you are under 18 years old, a Parent or trusted adult may purchase tickets and gift them to you, in which case, if you win, your Parent or trusted adult, must prove that they are 18 years of age or older and your Parent or Guardian must sign a release allowing us to award you the prize.

Q. Why are the Reference Numbers so long? Are they generated randomly?

A. The Reference Numbers are designed so that each number issued will have
the same number of digits and they all begin with a 1 on the left hand side. They are issued sequentially not randomly. After the raffle is closed, the system picks a winning number randomly from all the numbers issued.

Q. Can you Explain how the Gifting Process Works?

A. We realize that people may want to purchase tickets for a friend or relative who is a fan of the prize being offered in the raffle. Additionally, there may be people who are not 18 years of age or older who may want to enter a raffle (which is illegal). Gifting was created so that one person can buy the tickets and, if one of the tickets wins, the prize can be awarded to the person to whom the tickets were gifted. When a prize is gifted, the winner must verify that they were eligible to enter the raffle and the person to whom the tickets were gifted must also verify that they would have been eligible (except for the age requirement in the cases where the prize is gifted to a minor) to enter the raffle had they entered the raffle themselves.

Q. If I win the raffle, will I owe any taxes?

A. If you win a raffle, the IRS and Commonwealth of Massachusetts considers the prize value as income to you, which creates a tax liability for the Winner. In order to mitigate this tax liability, each netRaffle.org raffle includes a cash component equal to 30.25% of the fair market value of the prize. The 30.25% figure is comprised of 25% Federal Tax and 5.25% State Tax. These amounts are forwarded, on behalf of the Winner, directly to the IRS and Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After the end of the year, the Winner will be sent a W2G to use in completing their tax returns. While the funds remitted to pay for taxes should eliminate most Winner’s tax liability, there may be some residual taxes due depending on each Winner’s individual circumstances and the effective tax rate applicable to them. Also, please note that the tax calculation takes into account that the prize includes the funds to mitigate the Winner’s tax liability and thus there are taxes due on the tax component of the prize.
